Our Big Disney Year: Chapter 2

Every adventure begins with one small step. This one is the same. The Big Disney Year began with my first visit to the Walt Disney World Resorts in almost two years – though we had sailed on Disney Cruise Line between visits, so it’s all good.

Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort

One super warm day, late in September, I boarded a plane for my only adults-only visit of the year. And of the six Disney Resort hotels we stayed at during our Big Disney Year, this is the only one that was a repeat for me.

Coincidentally enough, I had stayed at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort for another adults only trip in 2012, but this resort was going through some big changes.

Construction Zone

Yup, like the rest of the Walt Disney World Resort, this resort hotel was going through some big changes in 2018 and on into 2019.

Luckily the room refurbishments and main building renovations were complete, so it felt like a brand new resort.

Sure the main feature pool was closed, and construction walls lined the parking lot. The Gran Destino Tower still had scaffolding and looked like it was a long way from completion, but you could tell the Cast Members we’re super excited about all of the changes coming to the resort.

DisExplorers on the Loose

I love beginning a Walt Disney World vacation at Magic Kingdom. Nothing says, “Welcome to the Magic,” like being greeted by Cinderella Castle.

What could make the Magic even more magical? Meeting up with long-time Disney friend and fellow cohost of the DisExplorers podcast Jessica, otherwise known as The Duchess of Disneyland. Check out her website here: Duchess of Disneyland

Aren’t we cute!

Jessica is the podcast’s Disneyland expert, so I had to be sure to show here the best of our Magic Kingdom.

We’re smiling, but we are melting. It’s hot!

A lot can change at Disney in two years. Pandora – The World of Avatar and Toy Story Land both opened, and I had yet to experience them – I know, y’all are super sad for me.

Toy Story Land

This place is awesome. Hot, and in dire need of some more shade, but awesome.

In fact, I found out pretty quickly that while everyone is raving about Slinky Dog Dash, I actually prefer Alien Swinging Saucers.

So, if you find yourself unable to grab that all too hard to get FastPass+ for Slinky Dog Dash, and the standby line is too long for your liking, you are going to LOVE Toy Story Land’s other attractions.

Pandora – The World of Avatar

Oh my Yass, y’all. This place is all of the awesomeness that I thought it would be. All. The. Awesomeness! And with lots of shade.

By now you know all about how amazing Avatar Flight of Passage is, and you’ve seen the singing Shaman of Songs at the end of Na’vi River Journey. So, I won’t do a moment-by-moment replay of the afternoon, but I will share something I might like just as much as riding on the back of a banshee…

The Cheeseburger Steamed Pod at Satu’li Canteen.

Yup, it’s a kids meal, and yup, I get it every single time we are in this part of the park and it is remotely close to meal time (unless I am eating at Yak & Yeti – that’s a story for another day). Back to the buger pods.

Oh, the yumminess. The boa buns look like pods, but taste like McDonald’s cheeseburgers.

Memories, and more memories

I made lots of memories during this first stay of the Big Disney Year, but one of my favorites was when an Epcot novice asked which flavor of soda he should try first at Club Cool. To which I instantly responded Beverly!

Y’all, I can only say that the Devil made me do it.

He was not a fan, but he did find it so funny that he went right to his wife and said, “Honey, you have to try this!” Ahhhh…. good times.

This is just the beginning of our Big Disney Year

I am a lucky lady! What made the end of this stay less bitter sweet, was the fact that I knew I would return with my family in a little over a week’s time!

Chapter Three: Next Week

More Disney shenanigans are in store, for sure! I have lots to share, so I am going to break down my next visit into two separate posts. Next week I want to shine a spooky light on our very first time at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. So much fun, and I made a few mistakes I want you to avoid. So stay tuned!
